Johann Daniel Hoffmann

Johann Daniel Hoffmann (also Hofmann ; born May 7, 1740 in Tübingen ; † June 10, 1814 there ) was a German legal scholar and university professor .

Life

Hoffmann was the son of the Tübingen law professor Gottfried Daniel Hoffmann . He studied philosophy and law at the University of Tübingen . There he obtained his master’s degree in philosophy and was promoted to Dr. iur. PhD . In 1767 he was employed as an associate professor , in 1769 or 1770 as a full professor of law at the University of Tübingen.

Hoffmann was also a full professor at the Collegium illustrious in Tübingen from 1770 to 1776 , and from 1771 he was councilor of the ducal-Württemberg. He is said to have enjoyed great popularity at both teaching institutions. In 1779 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. He had in his time in Tübingen three times the Rector of the University held, he was in the years 1774, 1778 and 1787/1788 Rector .

To the regret of the university, Hoffmann was appointed in 1790 as a learned member with title and rank of the Privy Council in Stuttgart . In 1794 he became order secretary of the great order of the Elector of Württemberg . He held this office until 1804. In his remaining positions, he was in the 1804 retirement was added.

He is said to have belonged to the Illuminati order .
