Johann Friedrich Gaab

Johann Friedrich Gaab , von Gaab since 1831 (born October 10, 1761 in Göppingen , † March 2, 1832 in Tübingen ) was a German Protestant theologian , university professor and general superintendent of Tübingen.

Life

After passing the state examination and attending the monastery schools in Blaubeuren and Bebenhausen , he entered the Evangelical-theological seminar in Tübingen in 1779 , where he graduated with a master's degree in philosophy in 1781 . After a job as court master in Switzerland , he returned to Tübingen and in 1787 became the supervisor of the seminar library. In 1788 the position as a repetition followed , in 1792 then as an associate professor of philosophy.

In 1798 Gaab was appointed full professor extra senatum and inspectorate assistant for the seminar. In 1806 he became a member of the Senate and Ephorus of the seminary, in 1811 rector of the University of Tübingen and in 1814 university librarian. From 1815 Gaab was prelate and general superintendent of Tübingen . As such, he was a member of the Württemberg state estates from 1819 to 1831 . In 1817 the University of Tübingen appointed him a doctor of theology .

In 1831 he was awarded the Order of the Württemberg Crown .

Research priorities

Gaab's main focus was on Old Testament exegetical and critical areas. It was characteristic of his work that he often deviated from the traditional and followed the Dutch school .
