Wilhelm Ludwig Volz

Wilhelm Ludwig Volz (* 18th March 1799 in Rastatt , † 19th August 1855 in Tübingen ) was a Grand Ducal Baden officer and the first Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Polytechnic School at Karlsruhe .

Life

In 1824 Volz joined the Line Infantry Regiment "von Stockhorn" No. 3 of the Baden Army .

In 1825 he was appointed professor of pure mathematics , descriptive geometry and mechanical engineering . From 1832 he headed the 2nd mathematical class of the polytechnic school. From 1837 to 1840 he was director of the Karlsruhe Polytechnic. From 1841 to 1855 Volz was a full professor of technology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen , and in 1848/49 also rector of the University of Tübingen.
