Christian Gottlieb Gmelin , from 1808 by Gmelin (born November 7, 1749 in Tübingen ; † March 6, 1818 ibid), was a German legal scholar .

Life

Christian Gottlieb Gmelin - brother of Johann Friedrich Gmelin - was born on November 7, 1749 in Tübingen as the son of Philipp Friedrich Gmelin . He studied at the University of Tübingen , which earned him a doctorate in 1770 . In the same year he became a lawyer at the university court. He also gave lectures. He stayed in Strasbourg and Göttingen for a few years, but returned to Tübingen in 1778 to become a full professor of law. Two years later he was appointed ducal councilor. On February 4, 1808 he became a knight of the Royal Württemberg Civil Merit Order , which was associated with the elevation to the personal nobility. In 1813 he was also accepted by the Higher Appellation Tribunal. Gmelin died on March 6, 1818 in Tübingen.

To distinguish it from his cousin of the same name ( Christian von Gmelin ), Christian Gottlieb was called "Criminal-Gmelin" at the university, while Christian von Gmelin was called "Pandecten-Gmelin".

On October 13, 1778 Gmelin married Christiane Elisabeth Schott in Urach . They had eleven children together, including the legal scholar and politician Friedrich von Gmelin , the lawyer Ludwig Otto Gmelin and the lawyer Christian Heinrich Gmelin .
