Christian Friedrich Schmid , von Schmid from 1844 (born May 25, 1794 in Bickelsberg , † March 28, 1852 in Tübingen ), was a German Protestant clergyman , theologian and university professor .

Life

Schmid was the son of a pastor. He attended the evangelical seminars in Denkendorf and Maulbronn . In 1812 he moved to the University of Tübingen and the Tübinger Stift . From 1817 to November 1818 he worked as a vicar in Kirchberg an der Murr , then he was repetent at the Tübingen monastery. Just one year later, he was given a teaching position in practical theology at the University's Preacher's Institute.

Schmid was appointed associate professor of practical theology and morals at the University of Tübingen on May 4, 1821 , and on November 5 of that year he was also appointed preacher at the Tübingen collegiate church . From October 1822 to 1843 he was assigned the position of clergyman at the marriage court senate of the Black Forest district. On September 6, 1826 he was given a full professorship at the university, and in 1843/44 and 1851/52 he was also its rector . As early as 1835 he was able to achieve a significant expansion of the preacher's institute.

In 1840 Schmid was a member of the commission that worked out a new Protestant liturgy for the Kingdom of Württemberg , in 1841 he was elected superattendant and thus head of the Tübingen monastery, and in 1848 he took part in the negotiations on a new church constitution. He also held a large number of executive and administrative positions in evangelical institutions, foundations and other institutions, such as the Gustav Adolfs Association or the Lustnauer Sophienpflege.

Schmid died of a heart condition.

Honors

In 1826 he received an honorary doctorate ( Dr. theol. Hc ) from the theological faculty of the University of Tübingen . In 1844 Schmid was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Württemberg Crown . This gave him personal nobility .

From 1828 to 1840 Schmid was co-editor of the Tübingen magazine for theology .
