Gottfried Ploucquet

Gottfried Ploucquet (born August 25, 1716 in Stuttgart , † September 13, 1790 in Tübingen ) was a German philosopher and logician . He was considered one of the most important philosophy and logic teachers of his time.

Life

Ploucquet was born in Stuttgart in 1716 as the son of a Huguenot refugee. After studying theology and working as a private tutor and pastor, Ploucquet was appointed to the chair for logic and metaphysics at the philosophical faculty in Tübingen in 1750 . After a stroke in February 1782, he spent the last eight years of his life "in complete seclusion". During his time at the Tübinger Stift he wrote several treatises on metaphysics and several logic compendia for his students. Since 1749 he was a foreign member of the Royal Prussian Society of Sciences . The Württemberg doctor Wilhelm Gottfried Ploucquet was his son.
