Gottlieb Friedrich Jäger

Gottlieb Friedrich Jäger (born June 7, 1783 in Stuttgart , † May 28, 1843 in Tübingen ) was a German Protestant clergyman , theologian and university professor .

Life

Jäger was the son of personal physician Christian Friedrich von Jäger . He attended the Stuttgart high school illustrious and after graduating on August 8, 1800 came to the Tübingen monastery . On October 23, 1800 he was enrolled at the University of Tübingen and on December 9, 1800 he received his bachelor's degree . In September 1802 he completed his master's degree in philosophy and then devoted himself to theological studies until 1805.

After completing his studies in Tübingen, Jäger went to the Count of Rantzau in Kiel as court master . Due to the lack of theologians, it was thanks to the mediation of his father that he got the clearance for the position in Kiel. There he was well accepted into the learned urban society. He stayed for three and a half years before returning to the Tübingen Abbey as a repetitee in 1808, combined with a trip to various German universities . At Easter 1811 he became vicar in Stuttgart. In 1810 he received a call as associate professor of theology at the University of Kiel . However, he had to refuse this because he did not receive any approval from Württemberg. In return, he was also offered a good position in Württemberg. In 1811 he received the parish in Tamm .

In 1816, Jäger received his appointment by the king as Ephorus of the Tübingen monastery and the full professorship for Hebrew and Biblical Greek at the Philosophical Faculty. After 1824 and before 1839 he received his doctorate from the University of Tübingen . In 1834 he had to give up his position as Ephorus at the monastery. He held the rectorate of the university twice , so he was rector in 1819 and 1824/1825 .

The chief medical officer Georg Friedrich von Jäger was his brother.
