Life

Wolfert was a child of the first Patental- disability Adam Christian Wolfert (* 1790 in Hohenstollen ; † October 17, 1865 in Neudek ) and Maria Anna nee Herzog (* 1800 in Widhostitz; † June 15, 1882 in Fischern) was born in Widhostitz near Podersam . His parents married shortly after his birth on February 11, 1821. He grew up in Neudek in the Ore Mountains , where his father worked as a postilion at the station there. His paternal grandfather came from Sauersack .

At the age of 18, Wolfert joined the Neudek post office as a postilion , until he moved to the station in Karlsbad in 1840 . In 1848 he had an accident while on a business trip and his superior asked the Upper Post Office Administration in Prague for another position for Wolfert in the post office , but he remained a postilion. In 1852 he received the honorary outfit. Wolfert achieved notoriety above all as a capable charioteer and excellent post horn player . His virtuoso post horn playing made him unforgettable for the guests and became legendary during his lifetime. Various stories have grown up around him. During his service he could get very rough at times, so in 1852 the post office administration in Prague reprimanded him for his improper behavior. An anecdote tells of a meeting in Schönlind with the miracle doctor Johann Baptist Rölz .

The Karlsbader Wochenblatt wrote about Wolfert: At that time he was a sought-after personality among his spa guests. Everyone asked to go with him - even the Emperor's mother, Archduchess Sofie , always had to go to Wolfert whenever she left Karlsbad after she had finished using the spa. In his album, which he created to enter the personalities who drove with him, there were a. the names of: King Wilhelm of Prussia , King Otto of Greece , Prince Bismarck , Prince Camill Rohan , Baron Rothschild , Dr. Löschner , Countess Hardegg , Alexander Prince of Prussia , Therese Princess von Thurn-Taxis , Count Belcredi , Count Mensdorf , Landgrave von Fürstenberg , Archbishop of Olomouc . Wolfert also promoted Emperor Franz Joseph I in 1864 when he was in the city. This was supposedly so enthusiastic about the postilion that he invited him to his place. When the emperor once again stayed in Carlsbad, blew Wolfert from Hirschsprung rock the imperial anthem .

For health reasons and because the stagecoach ride had gradually lost importance on the railroad , he resigned on December 6, 1868. Wolfert died on April 29, 1877 and was buried by fishermen in the cemetery. From the Vienna Post Museum u. a. three of his four memorial books are kept.
