Christian Eberhard Weißmann , often also Weismann (born September 2, 1677 in Hirsau Monastery ; † May 22, 1747 in Bad Waldsee ) was a German Protestant theologian and university professor .

Life

Weißmann was the son of Ehrenreich Weismann , who had fled to Württemberg because of his faith. He gave his son his first lessons until he was 12 years old. With a ducal scholarship, Christian Eberhard Weißmann was able to obtain the Tübingen monastery and was enrolled at the University of Tübingen in 1689 . In 1693 he obtained his master's degree . From 1699 he was a repeater at the monastery.

Weißmann was appointed deacon in Calw in 1701 and court chaplain in Stuttgart in 1705 . In 1707 he gave up his position as court chaplain for a professorship in church history and philosophy at the Stuttgart grammar school illustrious and also got the position as Wednesday preacher at the Stuttgart collegiate church .

In 1721, Weißmann was appointed associate professor of theology at the University of Tübingen. In 1722 he was promoted to Dr. theol. PhD . At the same time he became city ​​pastor and special superintendent there . He revealed himself to be a supporter of pietism . In 1725 he obtained the third full professorship, in 1728 the second full professorship in theology. During this time he had three times the Rector of the University held, he was in the years 1727, 1731 and 1737 Rector . As an opponent of the Enlightenment , he became an opponent of the philosopher Israel Gottlieb Canz at the university .
