Gustav von Schleich , born Gustav Schleich (born May 15, 1851 in Waldenbuch , † September 19, 1928 in Tübingen ) was a German ophthalmologist, professor of ophthalmology and long-time director of the Tübingen University Eye Clinic.

Life

Gustav Schleich studied in Tübingen, mainly as a student of the founding director of the institute and the Tübingen University Eye Clinic, Albrecht Eduard Nagel . His doctorate and license to practice medicine took place in 1875. He qualified as a professor in 1880 for ophthalmology and was titled in 1884. Prof. eo in Tübingen, had been a teacher of ophthalmology at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Stuttgart since 1889 and became Prof. ord. and Director of the University Eye Clinic in Tübingen, as Nagel's successor.

He was instrumental in building the new eye clinic (1906–1909). In 1909/10 he was rector of the university. After 26 years as director of the clinic, Schleich retired in 1921. He was succeeded by his former assistant Wolfgang Stock .

Honors

On July 21, 1909 he was elected a member of the Leopoldina .

The street leading to the former Tübingen eye clinic was named Schleichstraße after him.
