August (Pfalz-Sulzbach)
August von Pfalz-Sulzbach (born October 2, 1582 in Neuburg an der Donau , † August 14, 1632 in Windsheim ) was Count Palatine and Duke of Sulzbach .
Life
He was the third son of Philipp Ludwig von Pfalz-Neuburg (1547-1614) from his marriage to Anna (1552-1632), daughter of Duke Wilhelm von Jülich-Kleve-Berg .
His training began in 1609 at the University of Tübingen . Then he made a cavalier tour through Italy, England, France, Sweden and to numerous German royal courts. After the death of his father in 1614, he shared the inheritance with his brother Wolfgang Wilhelm . Wolfgang Wilhelm received Neuburg, August Sulzbach. Conflicts arose when his brother converted to Catholicism and wanted to initiate the Counter Reformation in Sulzbach as well. August was a devout Lutheran and fiercely resisted.
In 1618 he founded a school in Sulzbach. In 1630 he traveled to Leipzig , where the Swedish King Gustav II Adolf was staying with his army. Then he went with the king through Germany, he must have earned his trust. In 1632 the king sent him from Nuremberg to Saxony in order to dissuade the local elector Johann Georg I from an alliance with Wallenstein . After the successful negotiations, he died on August 14, 1632.

On July 17, 1620 he married Hedwig (1603–1657), daughter of Duke Johann Adolf von Schleswig-Holstein-Gottorf, in Husum , and had the following children with her:
