According to his sketchbook, Thomas “was in Foligno on July 30, 1829 and from March 1–3. October 1829 in Montefalco (13 km south of Foligno) ”. This sketchbook was a fragment of 36 sheets in 1897 and contained drawings based on works by Fra Angelico and Raffael ( School of Athens and Borgobrand ), Italian landscape and architectural sketches from Foligno, Montefalco, Rome and Ariccia as well as Roman "folk types".

On May 5, 1832, he married Gertrud Körfer in Aachen and worked as a portrait , history , landscape painter , etcher and drawing teacher. As the successor to Aegidius Johann Peter Joseph Scheuren , Thomas gave drawing lessons at the St. Leonhard Higher School for Daughters in Aachen for 30 years .

Thomas was one of the Aachen artists who took part in the first local painting exhibition in 1837. At the memorial exhibition in honor of Bastiné, he was represented with his self-portrait with his wife .
