Friedrich Traffelet

Friedrich Eduard Traffelet , also Fritz (born August 27, 1897 in Bern , † December 20, 1954 there ) was a Swiss painter and illustrator.

Life

Traffelet studied in both Zurich and Paris. After graduation, Traffelet married Alice Rondi in 1921. From 1939 to 1945, during the Second World War , he served in the Swiss Army . During this time he was also a military painter and his paintings of soldiers' life were well known in Switzerland. In the style of the 19th century, they reflected Switzerland in World War II.

Traffelets depictions of soldiers are mentioned in Friedrich Dürrenmatt's The Judge and His Executioner .

Later, Traffelet also painted portraits and landscapes. In his moral images his generally more traditional and conservative views are reflected.

Traffelet lived in the Zunftgesellschaft zum Affen , his estate is in the Bern Burger Library .
