Friedrich Wilhelm Berner (born May 16, 1780 in Breslau ; † May 9, 1827 there ) was a German church musician and hymn composer.

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm Berner was born in Breslau on May 16, 1780 and was the successor to his father Johann Georg Berner, who was the organist at the Elisabethkirche in Breslau.

At the age of nine he was already playing the piano in public and he was an assistant to his father from the age of 13 . He also worked as a music teacher for a seminar . He was also later elected director of the Royal Academic Institute for Church Music.

He died in his homeland on May 9, 1827, after falling ill several times and most recently suffering from a breast ailment.

A well-known student of Berner was Adolf Friedrich Hesse , and his brother Heinrich Ludwig Berner was also a student of his.
