Adolph Hesse

Adolph Friedrich Hesse , actually Adolph Benjamin (born August 30, 1809 in Breslau ; † August 5, 1863 ibid) was a German organist and composer .

Life

Hesse was a student of the organists Friedrich Wilhelm Berner and Ernst Köhler in Breslau and in 1831 became first organist at the Bernhardinkirche there. Hesse was considered an important organist in Germany and caused a sensation in Paris and London with his virtuoso pedal play. Because of his commitment to the organ work of Johann Sebastian Bach , he was nicknamed the Silesian Bach . In Breslau he also conducted the symphony concerts of the opera orchestra. Jacques-Nicolas Lemmens , the teacher of Alexandre Guilmant and Charles-Marie Widor, is one of his students .
