Michael Heinemann (musicologist)

Michael Heinemann (born March 5, 1959 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German musicologist and university professor.

career

Michael Heinemann passed his Abitur at the Nicolaus-Cusanus-Gymnasium Bergisch Gladbach in 1977 . From 1978 to 1985 he studied Catholic church music (A-exam 1982), music education (state music teacher exam 1983) and organ concert (class Wolfgang Stockmeier , university diploma 1985) at the Cologne University of Music . From 1982 to 1988 he began studying musicology, philosophy and art history at the Universities of Cologne, Bonn and Berlin and graduated in 1988 with a Magister Artium. 1986 to 1989 he worked as a tutor at the musicological institute of the TU Berlin with Carl Dahlhaus . From 1989 to 1991 he received a doctoral scholarship from the State of Berlin and received his doctorate in 1991 at the Technical University of Berlin with a dissertation on Franz Liszt's Bach reception . From 1991 to 1993 he worked as a freelance musicologist, published books and did editorial work for broadcasters. At the same time he held teaching positions at the "Hanns Eisler" University of Music in Berlin , the Carl Maria von Weber University of Music in Dresden and the Folkwang University in Essen . From 1994 to 1996 he was awarded a post-doctoral scholarship from the German Research Foundation. In 1997 Heinemann received his habilitation at the TU Berlin with a study of music theory in the 17th century. From 1998 to 2000 he was a professor for historical musicology at the Carl Maria von Weber Academy of Music in Dresden. Since 2000 he has been Professor of Historical Musicology there, and from 2003 to 2006 he was Dean of Faculty II.

Work focuses include u. a. the history of Bach's reception and - in collaboration with the Robert-Schumann-Haus Zwickau - a complete edition of Robert and Clara Schumann's letters ( published by Dohr ), of which Michael Heinemann is one of the editors. Heinemann is editor and co-editor of numerous books and series of publications.

Private

Heinemann has been married to Susanne Gänshirt-Heinemann since 1990.
