Friedrich Wilhelm Kullrich

Friedrich Wilhelm Kullrich (born December 18, 1821 in Dahme / Mark , † September 1, 1887 in Berlin ) was a medalist and coin die cutter.

Live and act

Kullrich was the son of Dahmer blacksmith Johann Friedrich Kullrich and was born in his house on December 18, 1821. He apprenticed to his father and became a blacksmith. From 1849 he was a student at the Berlin Art Academy. It was here that the sculptor Christian Daniel Rauch became aware of him in 1851 and entrusted him with the execution of a medal for the monument to Frederick the Great in Berlin . From 1855 Kullrich worked in Berlin as a medalist for state contracts for a fee and for private clients.

Stamp of court medalist Friedrich Wilhelm Kullrich

In 1859 Kullrich was appointed to the Berlin Mint and cut the stamps for the Prussian currency coins. After 1871 he created the first coins for the German Empire.

Kullrich also made stamps for Heinrich XIV. Prince Reuss younger line, who had his coins minted in Berlin, a. a. for the Vereinstaler from 1868 and the 20 Mark piece from 1881.

Kullrich was the father of Friedrich Kullrich and Reinhard Kullrich .
