Friedrich Wilhelm Lorinser

Friedrich Wilhelm Lorinser (born February 13, 1817 in Niemes , Bohemia, † February 27, 1895 in Vienna ) was an Austrian physician, orthopedist and botanist.

Life

Friedrich Wilhelm Lorinser initially studied philosophy in Prague, but then switched to medicine in Prague and Vienna, where he was admitted to the kk operations institute in 1839 as an operation pupil. After two years each he rose to the position of secondary surgeon in the general hospital and primary surgeon of the district hospital on the Wieden. From around 1845 he investigated the damaging effects of phosphorus fumes on the bones when making matches. In 1848 he was promoted to Dr. chir. and in 1851 Dr. med. PhD.

In 1850 he founded an orthopedic institute in Vienna that he soon moved to Unterdöbling . From 1871 to 1892 he was director of the Wiedner Hospital .

He was a member of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors .

His father was the surgeon Ignaz Lorinser (1771–1841). His brothers were the physicians Karl Ignaz (1796–1853) and Gustav (1811–1863). With the latter he wrote a paperback on the flora of Germany and Switzerland in 1848.

His daughter Gisela (1856–1899) became a composer and writer. His nephew Franz (1821-1893) turned to theology.
