Friedrich Wilhelm Möller (born May 20, 1805 in Haus Kupferhammer near Brackwede ; † July 25, 1878 there ) was a German entrepreneur and member of parliament.

Life

He was the son of Theodor Adolf Möller and grandson of Johann Theodor Möller . The mother was Eleonore Nottebohm. In 1832 he married Friederike Woermann, a daughter of Gottlieb Woermann. His sons were Karl Möller and Theodor Adolf von Möller .

He received his school education in the Schnepfenthal educational institution . He completed a commercial apprenticeship with a shipping company in Bremen .

In 1832 Möller became a partner in the family's own leather factory, Th. A. Möller & Sohn. In 1843 the linen, leather and copper divisions were transferred to him. The company now traded under the name of F. Möller. He modernized the tannery with new machines. The newly created textile companies, especially the bleaching company, polluted the water required for the tannery. A dispute broke out between Möller and the textile manufacturers in the 1850s, which ended in a settlement and ensured the company was supplied with fresh water.

By marrying Friederike Woermann, his financial situation improved. Together with his brother Arnold Möller, he bought a copper hammer near Essen in 1838 . The copper hammer near Brackwede was finally shut down in 1867. Instead, Möller set up a farm. But Möller continued trading in copper. The leather factory also continued to flourish. In 1854 he participated in the founding of the Ravensberger Spinnerei , later also in the Aktiengesellschaft für mechanical Spinnerei Bielefeld and the Westfälische Bank AG. He has served on various boards of directors. Overall, as an entrepreneur, Möller was not willing to take risks, but rather conservative.

In addition, he was politically and socially active. He was chairman of the agricultural district association. In the 1850s Möller was President of the Bielefeld Chamber of Commerce and later Vice President. He was the founder and chairman of the Brackweder Aid Association.

Möller was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives for Bielefeld from 1849, 1852 to 1856 and 1858 to 1861 . He can be assigned to the old liberals.
