Johann Theodor Möller (born June 14, 1705 in Werdohl ; † January 30, 1763 in Warstein ) was a German pre-industrial entrepreneur in copper mining and copper production.

Life

The father was the reformed preacher Antonius Möller (1671–1728) in Werdohl. Möller completed a commercial training in Cologne. He married Clara Catarina Zahn (1699–1732) as his first wife. Through the marriage, Möller became co-owner of a copper hammer near Warstein. In particular, based on the assets brought in by his wife, Möller participated in a large number of companies. Among other things, he owned copper works in Niedermarsberg , Niederense , Hagen , Oberkaldenbach and Olpe . After the death of his first wife, Möller married Anna Sibylle Gertrud Schmidt (1715–1746) in 1737 . Through them, the Reckhammer and the Bielstein castle house near Wiehl came into the possession of Möller. One year after the death of his second wife, Möller married Elenore Hovius (1720–1788) in 1747. Möller's last acquisition was in 1761 when he took over the copper hammer near Brackwede .

In pre-industrial times, Möller employed a total of 250 workers and other skilled workers. He dominated the copper production and trade from the west of the Sauerland to the north-east of Westphalia.

His residence in Warstein, " Haus Kupferhammer ", is evidence of economic success . The current city museum acquired its castle-like character through its construction work.

The partner in Brackwede was Adolf Nottebohm, who took over the hammer after Möller's death. Abraham Nottebohm , who married a daughter of Möller , became his heir . Other children were Johann Anton Arnold Möller (1732–1806), mayor of Lippstadt. Theodor Adolf Möller (1762–1847) was an entrepreneur and wholesale merchant and was involved in founding Gothaer Versicherung . Friedrich Carl Hermann Möller (* 1743) took over the Bielstein estate.
