Helmut Kandlberger

Helmut Kandlberger (born July 4, 1936 in Cologne ) is a German jazz musician .

Kandlberger began his professional career as a guitarist , later he switched to the bass . At the age of 20 he was already playing in American clubs in France. In 1962 he was a founding member of the Klaus Doldinger Quartet . With interruptions he played in this formation until 1970.

From 1960 to 1994 Kandlberger was a much booked studio musician . In addition to this activity, he played in other different formations with fellow musicians such as Udo Lindenberg , Herbert Grönemeyer , Paul Kuhn , Johnny Griffin , Manfred Schoof , Philip Catherine , Garcia Morales and Ingfried Hoffmann .

As a bass player, Kandlberger also accompanied various artists on their tours, including Chet Baker , Caterina Valente , Howard Carpendale , Leo Kottke , Volker Kriegel , Deborah Sasson and Hildegard Knef . For several years he was a bassist in Günter Noris' big band and occasionally played in the Kurt Edelhagen orchestra .

Since 1995 Kandlberger has been working exclusively as a composer and arranger in his studio near Cologne.
