Friedrich Wilhelm Schwabe
Friedrich Wilhelm Schwabe (born January 20, 1780 in Weimar , † January 24, 1842 in Weimar) was a German doctor.
Friedrich Wilhelm Schwabe was the son of the court attorney and later secret government councilor Traugott Leberecht Schwabe and the brother of the Weimar Mayor Carl Leberecht Schwabe , with whom the riddle about the skull of the poet Friedrich Schiller began. Schwabe belonged to the narrow circle of those who in 1805 buried the poet's remains in the vaulted vault of the Jacob's cemetery. It can be assumed that Schwabe knew Schiller well during his lifetime.
In 1806 he became court medic at the Weimar court and personal physician to Grand Duchess Maria Pawlowna , and in 1816 Privy Councilor . He accompanied them on their bathing trips. Schwabe was also the personal physician of Grand Duke Carl August . Until 1826 he was also Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's family doctor , then Carl Vogel took over until Goethe's death in 1832, probably also because Schwabe was often not available to accompany the Grand Duchess on her travels as a family doctor for Goethe.
In literary terms, Schwabe left little behind, although, according to Julius Pagel, he was a member of numerous learned societies. He was a member of the Weimar Masonic Lodge " Anna Amalia zu den Drei Rosen ". He is buried in the historical cemetery in Weimar .
