Friedrich Zipp

Friedrich Zipp (born June 20, 1914 in Frankfurt am Main ; † October 7, 1997 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German composer and church musician.

Life

After graduating from high school in 1933, Zipp studied music education and church music in Frankfurt and Berlin , among others with Armin Knab . After graduating as a church musician in 1938, Zipp worked as a student trainee, choir director and organist in Frankfurt. Drafted for military service in 1941, Zipp was taken prisoner by the Americans in 1945 .

From 1945 Zipp was again a church musician in Frankfurt and worked as a freelancer for the Hessischer Rundfunk . In 1947 Zipp was appointed lecturer for composition and ear training at the State University of Music in Frankfurt a. M., where he was appointed professor in 1962. In 1977 Zipp moved to Freiburg i. Br. Um, where he lived until his death in 1997.

His extraordinarily broad compositional work includes sacred and secular choral works as well as instrumental music. In addition to compositions for organ and piano, this includes B. “O dear Augustine: Metamorphoses in the style of famous composers” also chamber music, as well as compositions for brass ensembles and orchestral music.
