Friedrich Zirkler

Friedrich Zirkler (born May 25, 1827 in Clausthal-Zellerfeld , † February 2, 1909 there ) was a German photographer. He is considered the "[...] most striking photographer of life in the Upper Harz around 1900" and the protagonist of mine photography.

Friedrich Zirkler was born at the time of the Kingdom of Hanover as the son of a Untersteigers from Zellerfeld . After initially working as a punch worker in the Upper Harz mining industry, he soon rose to become Oberschlämmer .

From 1857 Friedrich Zirkler was the owner of a “photography studio ” in Clausthal-Zellerfeld, parallel to his miner work ; initially on the Hoher Weg street in Zellerfeld, then from 1863 in the Clausthaler Marktviertel am Zellbach .

In 1863, Zirkler married Emilie , nee Rose , who first gave birth to their son Heinrich (* 1864), who became a senior miner, and William (1869–1928), who continued his father's work as a photographer. Only after the birth of his two sons did Friedrich Zirkler work full-time as a photographer from 1870.

According to a lapel of one of the cardboard supports of his photographs, partly from Fried's lithographic establishment . Hundt & Hamburg , Zirkler's works were awarded at exhibitions in Berlin in 1889 and in Chicago in 1893 .
