William Zirkler

William Zirkler (born January 2, 1869 in Clausthal-Zellerfeld , † April 11, 1928 in Göttingen ) was a German photographer and protagonist in particular of industry , mining and smelting photography.

Life

William Zirkler was a son of the Clausthal photographer Friedrich Zirkler (1827-1909). After attending the Clausthaler Gymnasium, he studied from 1886 at the Clausthaler Bergakademie and in Berlin at the Technical University TH Berlin, while also working as a photographer.

In 1901, William Zirkler took over the studio founded by his father in Clausthal-Zellerfeld, and at the same time worked in underground and industrial photography, especially in the Harz mining industry , for Ilseder Hütte and Peiner Walzwerke .

In 1909, Zirkler married Paula , née Gennerich , with whom he had two sons. After Zirkler's death in 1928, the Hanover- born photographer Paul Sandberg took over Zirkler's studio in Clausthal.
