Friedrich von Berg-Altena

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Count Friedrich von Berg-Altena (* in the 12th century ; † 1198 or 1199 ) was the son of Eberhard I. von Berg-Altena . His year of birth is unknown. However, since he appears as ruler from 1173, he must have been born around 1155 at the latest. Probably the age difference to his brother Arnold von Altena, who was born around 1150, was not particularly great. Friedrich is the father of Adolf I von der Mark and thus the progenitor of the line of Counts von der Mark .

Around 1170 Friedrich von Berg-Altena acquired Oberhof Mark in Hamm, whose possessions included a strategically located hill, which later became the castle hill in the Mark. The Oberhof also had its own church, the Pankratiuskirche , which also passed into Friedrich's possession.

Friedrich married Alveradis von Krieckenbeck, daughter of Count Rainer, around 1198/99 (probably much earlier). His sons were Count Adolf I. von der Mark (probably born around 1182) and Friedrich. Both of them may have met the father, who either died before their birth or shortly after, at best at a very young age. Still, Friedrich had taken care of his son Adolf. In his favor, he had a castle built on the hill from 1198, the Burg Mark . It can also be assumed that after the division of the estate, Friedrich wanted to exercise control over the possessions of his brother, who had made the nearby castle and town of Nienbrügge his residence.

After Friedrich died at the turn of the century, his son called himself Adolf von der Mark as early as 1202 .
