The Friedrichshöhle is a karst cave located between the Binolen district of Balver and the Hemeraner Klusenstein Castle . It is located in the Hönnetal in a Devonian mass limestone depression that extends from Hagen to Balve.
The length of the cave explored so far is approx. 1,500 meters. The corridors run over three floors with a height difference of 25 meters. The entrance is on the middle floor. A rich occurrence of Pleistocene animal bones was discovered in the front area of the cave .
In the lower area still existing clay deposits make further research difficult.
The Friedrichshöhle belongs together with the Feldhofhöhle and the tunnel cave to a common cave system, which is shaped by the Hönne and the brook Bremke.
The cave on the western side of the Hönnetal was discovered in the early 1860s when the Binolener Tunnel was being built. The corridor length was 55 meters.
