The Freshness Center Frankfurt am Main is a wholesale market for groceries in Frankfurt am Main .

Around 110 food wholesalers, importers, regional producers and specialty dealers sell their goods in the buildings. The Frankfurt Freshness Center is a wholesale center for commercial retail in the food sector and supplies around 3,000 customers per week in the extended Rhine-Main area . Customers include resellers from the food sector, wholesalers, hotel and restaurant operators, cooks and restaurateurs, canteen kitchen operators, snack operators, weekly market traders, farm shops and food retailers.

history

On June 6, 2004, the Frankfurt am Main freshness center was opened in the “Am Martinszehnten” industrial park in the Kalbach district of Frankfurt as the successor to the closed Frankfurt am Main wholesale market . The old Großmarkthalle Frankfurt closed on June 4, 2004, and the European Central Bank has been on the site since 2010 .

After 16 months of construction, two halls and two office buildings were built on a plot of land with a size of 133,000 m². A sales hall with around 23,000 m² of retail space, a warehouse with around 16,500 m² and around 2,400 m² of office space. The halls are equipped with six-meter-wide, covered loading ramps on all sides. The construction costs amounted to 42.5 million euros. The dealers also invested around 10 million euros in their market stalls.

The operator is the Freshness Center Frankfurt am Main - Großmarkt GmbH. The main shareholder is the city of Frankfurt am Main with 25%, the remaining 75% is distributed among the resident dealers. The chairman of the supervisory board is the city councilor Claus Möbius. The annual turnover of goods is around 440,000 t, of which 140,000 t are from regional production.

Infrastructure

The freshness center is located directly at the Bad Homburger Kreuz in the triangle of the A 5 and A 661 motorways . Numerous trucks head for the freshness center every day via the Frankfurt-Nieder Eschbach junction to the A 661 to deliver fresh food. Even the goods that are flown in from distant countries can be in the fresh produce center in a very short time thanks to the transport links and the proximity to the airport. The central location and good connections are decisive factors for the freshness and quality of the food.

The assortment of around 110 grocers ranges from fruit, vegetables, meat and fish to poultry and eggs, cheese and dairy products to baked and dry goods, international delicatessen specialties as well as organic products, ornamental plants and beverages and packaging.
