The Bad Homburg Cross is a motorway junction in Hesse , which is located in the Rhine-Main area . Here the federal highway 661 ( Taunusschnellweg ) crosses the federal highway 5 ( Hattenbacher Dreieck - Frankfurt am Main - Basel ).
geography
The Bad Homburg Cross is located on the city limits between Bad Homburg vor der Höhe and Frankfurt am Main . The closest districts of Frankfurt are Nieder-Eschbach , Kalbach-Riedberg and Bonames . The surrounding towns and communities are Oberursel , Karben and Bad Vilbel . The cross is located about 10 km north of downtown Frankfurt and about 45 km south of Gießen , on the southeast edge of the Taunus Nature Park . It is number 17 on the A5 and number 4 on the A 661.
State of development
The cross is laid out in the shape of a clover. The A 5 has six lanes in the intersection area, the A 661 has four lanes. All transitions are single-lane. The acceleration lane on the A5 heading south for traffic coming from the east leads, because of the frequent backlogs, in an unusual way, separated from traffic coming from the west, directly onto the directional lane. The acceleration and deceleration lanes of the A 661 junctions Bad Homburg and Nieder-Eschbach go directly into the respective distribution lanes of the Homburger Kreuz. Until the Nieder-Eschbach junction was built in 2005, the crossings from and to the A 5 led directly to the A 661; In the course of the new building, this was changed and a separate distribution lane was set up for each direction of travel on the A 661.
As part of the eight-lane expansion of the A5 between Nordwestkreuz and Friedberg, a further conversion of the Bad Homburg Cross with a semi-direct ramp for the Kassel - Offenbach route is planned.
Traffic volume
It is one of the busiest road junctions in Hesse with around 209,000 vehicles per day.
