The Neuchâtel motorway triangle (short: Neuchâtel triangle , abbreviation: AD Neuenburg ) is a motorway triangle in Baden-Württemberg between Freiburg im Breisgau and Basel . It is located immediately east of the border between Germany and France near Mulhouse . The triangle connects the German federal autobahn 5 ( Hattenbacher Dreieck - Frankfurt am Main - Basel) and the French autoroute A36 ( La Comtoise ).

Position and design

The triangle is located in the area of the city of Neuenburg am Rhein immediately east of the German-French border river Rhine . The surrounding towns and communities are Auggen and Schliengen on the German side of the Rhine and Ottmarsheim and Hombourg on the French side . The triangle is located about 35 km southwest of Freiburg, about 15 km east of Mulhouse and about 25 km north of Basel .

The A36 autoroute coming from France (coming from Beaune / Mulhouse ) is connected to the German federal motorway 5 . Between the border and the triangle, the German section of Autoroute 36, which is only about 400 meters long, is also classified as Federal Motorway 5 (BAB 5ast). This section used to be known as the 862 federal autobahn , making it the shortest autobahn in Germany.

The left-hand trumpet was chosen as the design . The A 5ast goes over the regular A 5. Except for the direct west-south ramp and part of the indirect south-west ramp, all carriageways are two-lane. The Hohlebach , which flows further north into the Rhine, is spanned twice with bridges. A road will be bridged on the banks of the Rhine from which two company access roads will meet the motorway.
