Before World War II

The Karlsruhe triangle was built until 1938 and, in the course of the motorway construction from Karlsruhe to Salzburg, was completed and opened to traffic before the Second World War .

Karlsruhe triangle race

From 1946 to 1951, motorsport races took place in the triangle, the Karlsruhe triangle race .

Remodeling 2011

The bridge over the Stuttgart – Basel ramp over the A 5 was rebuilt from August 2011 to early 2013. The existing bridge had to be demolished due to its poor condition. First, a new bridge was built right next to the existing one and the previous line of the ramp was adapted. For this reason, the existing road cross-section was also widened. The cost was around 6.6 million euros.

State of development

In this area, the A 5, just like the A 8, has six lanes. All reconciliations are two-lane.

The triangle is laid out as a complete triangle (Full-Y).

Traffic volume

It is one of the busiest road junctions in Baden-Württemberg with around 160,000 vehicles per day.
