Frits Nielsen (born April 23, 1953 in Herning ) is a former Danish ice hockey player and coach .

Career

As a player

Frits Nielsen started his career at his home club Herning IK , where he first played in various youth teams and was also used in the first division team from the 1970/71 season. The left shooter continuously increased his statistics and celebrated the club's first championship in the 1972/73 season, to which he contributed 39 points in 18 games. In 1975 Nielsen moved to another club for the first time and joined Herning's competitor AaB Ishockey for a year . After winning the runner-up, he returned directly to the HIK and celebrated his second championship title with the team in the 1976/77 season, in which - as in the following year - he was the top scorer of the elite series . After two more years in Herning, he signed another contract with AaB. This time, Nielsen stayed in Aalborg for three years and won his third title with the club in the 1980/81 season. In 1984 Nielsen moved to Herning for a third time, where he signed a contract as player- coach. Two years later he ended his active career.

As a trainer

As a trainer, Nielsen stayed with the HIK for a total of twelve years from 1984. After he was still on the ice as a player-coach himself for the first two years, he then worked as head coach for his home club. During his tenure there are five championships and three runner-up championships. In addition, in 1988 Nielsen was responsible for the commitment of Todd Bjorkstrand , whom he brought as a college player from North America only on the basis of recommendations and who has been a member of the club as a player and coach since 1988. In 1996 Nielsen resigned and handed over the office to Seppo Repo .

After retiring from ice hockey, Nielsen worked as a columnist for the Herning Folkeblad and accompanied the league games and world championships as a commentator for Danish television .

family

Frits Nielsen's two sons, Frans and Simon , are also professional ice hockey players. Both began under their father at the Herning Blue Fox with the ice hockey and then continued their careers at foreign clubs.
