Fritz Bühler (entrepreneur)
Fritz Bühler (born May 7, 1909 in Bern ; died August 23, 1980 in Zurich ) was a Swiss entrepreneur and the first President of the Swiss Air Rescue Rega.
Life
Bühler's childhood friend was Hans Schädelin, whose younger brother was the writer Klaus Schädelin, born in 1918 . Bühler dropped out of middle school and did an apprenticeship as a printer in his parents' company . In 1929, he became one of the first certified ski instructors in Switzerland . In 1930 he took part in the Arlberg-Kandahar race . In 1933 he led the first course for ski school directors and founded his own ski school in Saanenmöser . Bühler became technical and commercial director of Ozalid AG for tracing papers in Zurich in 1936 and was therefore able to marry appropriately.
Klaus Schädelin and Fritz Bühler took part in several rallies in the 1950s , Bühler at the wheel of a Plymouth , and Schädelin as a card reader, for example in 1951 at the Geneva “Rallye de Neige”. In 1955, Schädelin published the youth novel Mein Name ist Eugen , in which a "Fritzli Bühler" is described as the idol of the rascal quartet in the novel. Bühler also obtained a pilot's license and was involved in the Swiss air rescue service Rega, which was founded in 1952 . In 1959 he became the technical director of Rega and sold Ozalid AG in 1964. In 1966 he was appointed Rega’s first President and in 1979 President of the Rega Foundation.
In 1971, Bühler was awarded an honorary doctorate by the medical faculty of the University of Basel for his work at Rega .
The funeral speech for Bühler, who died of heart failure, was given by his friend Klaus Schädelin in Zurich's Fraumünster . Bühler is buried in the Witikon churchyard .
