Fritz Bohla (born January 11, 1948 in Krostitz ) is a former German soccer player and soccer coach. For Energie Cottbus and 1. FC Union Berlin he played in the highest GDR soccer class, the Oberliga . As a trainer, he also led Energie Cottbus to the GDR league.

Athletic career

Soccer player

Bohla began his sporting career as a ten-year-old soccer player at Traktor Krostitz, the company sports association (BSG) of the agricultural production cooperative (LPG) in his hometown of Krostitz, north of Leipzig . At the age of 15, he joined the SC Lokomotive Leipzig youth team in October 1963. With the connection of the soccer sections of the SC Lokomotive Leipzig and the SC Rotation Leipzig in the summer of 1964, the most talented young players of both Leipzig clubs were integrated into the SC Leipzig. Here Bohla plays for 2 years in the junior area. In January 1966 he was taken over by the 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig , which had been spun off from the sports club , and was used in the upper league reserve team. In the 1967/68 season he was elected team captain.

In the summer of 1968 Bohla moved to BSG Energie Cottbus and played there until October 1970 in the second-rate GDR league . He came to 50 games for Energie during that time, in which he scored two goals. From October 1970 to June 1974 he was a soldier of the " National People's Army " of the GDR and during this time played for the GDR league team Vorwärts Cottbus . Bohla appeared in 73 games and scored 15 goals. In July 1974 Bohla returned to Energie Cottbus and after the 1974/75 season reached promotion to the league in which came to 21 league games and 2 goals. With 28 appearances in the total of 22 point and eight promotion games played, he had made a significant contribution to this success. In the promotion round he was used in seven games and scored 2 goals. In the league season 1975/76 he played all 26 point games as a Libero , but could not prevent Energie from having to relegate far behind after only one season.

In order to be able to continue playing in the league, Bohla joined the league promoted 1. FC Union Berlin in July 1976. There he took over the position of Libero again from the first day of the match and completed 25 point games as well as the three Unioner cup games. In the penultimate game of the season, he was injured in the game in Aue on his right knee. Over the summer break and with the start of preparation for the 1977/1978 season, conservative means tried to achieve stability in the injured knee. Even a two-week stay in the sports sanatorium for competitive sports in Kreischa could not lead to the hoped-for success. In August 1977 Bohla had to undergo an operation on the right knee joint. Both menisci were removed and a plastic of the posterior cruciate ligament was inserted. Due to circumstances that have not yet been clarified, a surgical instrument (meniscottome / meniscus knife) was left in the knee joint during the operation! Another stay in the sports sanatorium had to be interrupted after a short stay due to acute inflammation in the operated knee. At the end of November 1977 the surgical instrument in Cottbus was removed by a minor operation. Subsequent immobilization with a plaster cast and rehabilitation measures did not improve the mobility in the knee joint. Another major operation was necessary in May 1978 in the orthopedics department in Kolkwitz. Unfortunately, this operation and intensive rehabilitation made it impossible to continue his footballing career. Nevertheless, Bohla was able to start his coaching activity as an assistant coach at 1. FC Union in July 1979. Over the years of his coaching activity, acute problems of the injured knee have repeatedly been the reason for interruptions in his commitment to competitive football. In April 2008, Bohla underwent an operation to insert an artificial knee joint.

coach

Bohla initially stayed with 1. FC Union and became assistant coach of the league team. In 1980 he left Berlin and took over his first coaching position as head coach for the district league club Robur Zittau for the 1980/81 season. In the first year of his work as a responsible coach, he led Robur Zittau to promotion to the GDR league (second highest division) and to the Dresden district cup winner. Between 1983 and 1984 Bohla held the position of district coach at the Cottbus district football committee . In October 1984 Bohla, who had the qualification of a qualified sports teacher, was transferred to the position of head coach at Energie Cottbus. The Cottbusers still played in the GDR league, but Bohla managed to lead the team back to the major league in 1986. Although Energie rose again after a year, but managed the immediate rise under Bohla, and Bohla managed to keep Cottbus in the league for the first time in the following seasons. Only when Energie had a disappointing start to the season with only three wins from eleven games and the players rebelled against the coach, Bohla was dismissed. Bohla supervised Energie Cottbus as head coach for six years and in 201 competitive games.

From February 1991 to June 1991 Bohla worked as technical director at Tennis Borussia Berlin. In the summer he took over as coach for the former league team. He then did not work in German football for several years, only in January 1997 he took over a third division team with Wacker Nordhausen , which he led from the penultimate place to relegation and the state cup winner (cup final against Rotweis Erfurt 3-2) in April 1989 he finished his engagement after disagreements with the bureau. His last position as a football coach was in the 1998/99 season with the regional division Lok Altmark Stendal , with whom he reached 12th place among 18 teams at the end of the season. Then Bohla turned away from football, returned to Cottbus and was manager of the Lausitz handball club until February 2007.
