Life

“Permanent honor card” 1968/69 for Fritz Deike von Hannover 96 for the Lower Saxony Stadium and the Eilenriede Stadium

Fritz Deike came to football at an early age, but played in different positions in his youth and later at Vienenburg in 1916 and from 1931 at Hannover 96 . So he started his career at Hannover 96 in goal. But his talent as a field player was discovered very soon. In his regular position as a middle runner, he not only organized the defensive midfield at Hannover 96, but also caught the eye of the then Reich coach Otto Nerz , who called him for the A international match on August 25, 1935, Germany against Romania in Erfurt (4: 2). Deike also played three selection games for Northern Germany from 1934 to 1937 .

In 1938 Fritz Deike belonged, like his brother Hermann ("Ernst"), to the circle of regular players of Hannover 96 and became German champions with the club . In the two finals against Schalke 04 (3: 3 after extra time and 4: 3 in the replay) he was only able to watch because of a serious meniscus injury and was represented by his brother Ernst, actually Hermann Deike, who died in the war in 1941. Fritz played 19 times in the finals of the German championship for Hanover. During the Second World War, Deike played several times for military teams. Even after the war, Deike remained loyal to his 96ers and put on his soccer boots several times for the club. He played for Hannover until 1948. He ended his active career as a player-coach at SV Limmer 10 . In 1954, the year of the second German championship in Hanover 96, Deike acted as a volunteer supervisor for the team and as a representative for the coach Helmut Kronsbein .

From the obituary of the Hannoversche Allgemeine: "As a middle runner he was a tough but always fair footballer - as a person, the deceased can be described as a fine friend."
