Fritz Hönig (also Fritz Hoenig and Fritz Hœnig; born September 23, 1833 in Cologne ; † November 2 or 3, 1903 there ) was a Cologne entrepreneur.

Live and act

Hönig lived and worked in Cologne, but had numerous connections throughout the German Empire , as well as France and Belgium .

He was the owner of a factory for fire fighting equipment as well as an inventor and designer. He also dealt with language and dialect research, as an author he wrote numerous writings in Cologne dialect. He was also involved in the Cologne Carnival and was, among other things, President of the Cologne Carnival Society Die Große from 1923 .

Hönig was born in the grave of his first wife Jenny. van den Valentyn is buried in the Melaten cemetery in Cologne (hall 49).

His friends and admirers posthumously published a new edition of Hönig's “Dictionary of Cologne Dialect”. It contains an obituary of the then rector of the Waisenhausgasse / Martinsfeld school in Cologne and the Cologne dialect writer Heinrich Hack (1856–1936).

Honors

On September 24, 1885, the Cologne city council appointed him, among other honors, chief of honor of the volunteer fire brigade , to which he had been a member since 1852.

A street in Cologne-Lindenthal was named in his honor. It is located in the vicinity of the St. Elisabeth Hospital in the south-western part of today's Lindenthal district .
