Heinrich Hack

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Heinrich Hack (born May 23, 1856 in Cologne ; † January 2, 1936 there ) was a Cologne school principal, author and dialect writer.

He was one of Fritz Hönig's “friends and admirers ” who, two years after his death , brought out his much-received dictionary of the Cologne dialect in an expanded and updated edition with unusually good equipment. He wrote the additional foreword, which includes an obituary and Hönig's curriculum vitae, as well as the new foreword to the new edition, which replaces Hönig's original rhyming, as well as taking over the main editorial work on behalf of the more than fifty-strong working group to complete it, which Hönig had not been able to finish during his lifetime. For many years he was rector of the Waisenhausgasse / Martinsfeld school in Cologne . Like the much older Hönig, Hack was associated with the Cologne men's choir and wrote several times about its activities. In the winter of 1905/06 to mark the four-centenary of the stay of Emperor Maximilian I in the Brauergaffel, as the guild and guild house of the Cologne brewers is called, Hack wrote a “father-city operetta” in two acts. It bears the title Der Reichsdach zo Kölle 1509 or Kaiser Max en der Brauergaffel and was performed by the Caecilia Wolkenburg department of the men's choir. He also wrote contemplative and humorous pieces in Cologne dialect , including puppet shows for the Cologne Hännesjentheater . He was also active in the carnival, including as a songwriter for the Great Carnival Society . He left behind a collection of newspaper clippings and some pamphlets that were handed over to the Cologne city archive and are listed there as the "Hack Collection".
