Heribert A. Hilgers

Heribert Augustinus Hilgers (born October 8, 1935 in Cologne - Lindenthal , † December 6, 2012 in Cologne) was a German philologist , linguist , author , professor at the University of Cologne and an expert on Ripuarian dialects and especially Kölsch .

Life

Hilgers grew up in Cologne-Sülz . He did his Abitur at the Apostle High School. He studied German and Latin in Cologne and Tübingen and graduated with the state examination. From 1971, the year of his doctorate, until 1997, he ran the university's philosophy faculty. He worked as a private lecturer at the Institute for German Language and Literature I at the university, most recently as academic director, and in the academic examination office of the faculty, for a long time as its head. With his contributions to the history of Cologne's language and literature, which were also regularly picked up by the Cologne press, he was known far beyond the university.

Hilgers was on the advisory board of the Akademie för uns kölsche Sproch and as chairman of the Heimatverein Alt Köln (1980–2004), where he was particularly involved in supporting the performances of Kumede .

His grave is located in Cologne's southern cemetery (hall 27 no. 807). It lies next to the grave of his friend Henner Berzau .

Honors

Hilgers was the recipient of the Rhineland Taler , received the Federal Cross of Merit in 1995 and the Franz Peter Kürten Award in 2001 for special services to Rhenish dialect literature and Rhenish customs.
