Günter Lachmann (2015)

Günther Lachmann (born March 11, 1961 in Papenburg ) is a German journalist , author and active in the field of strategic communication for the AfD parliamentary group in the Thuringian state parliament as well as media advisor to AfD state chairman Björn Höcke .

Life

Education

Lachmann studied economics in Münster . According to Piper Verlag , he lived in Berlin when he was employed by Die Welt .

Journalistic career

Lachmann was u. a. Politics editor at Bild and from 2001 head of page three (politics) or deputy head of the parliamentary editorial office of Welt am Sonntag . He works as an occasional columnist for Deutschlandradio Kultur and MDR Kultur .

Until his dismissal in February 2016, he was chief reporter for Welt Online and the Welt -Gruppe. Among other things, he was responsible for reporting on the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party . Stefan Aust justified Lachmann's dismissal with “dishonest behavior”. The Junge Freiheit had recently published emails from Lachmann to the press spokesman Marcus Pretzells , which should show that Lachmann had written a concept for a reorientation of the AfD. Marcus Pretzell, at the time AfD state chairman in North Rhine-Westphalia, also suspects that Lachmann reported particularly critically about the AfD after chairwoman Frauke Petry - Pretzell's partner at the time - rejected Lachmann's offer to work for her as a fee advisor.

Lachmann immediately denied the allegations. Former AfD chairman Bernd Lucke affirmed on oath that Lachmann, contrary to what Pretzell claims, would never have offered himself in any way during his time as AfD boss.

In a labor court case, the world had to withdraw the termination without notice. Both sides agreed on an amicable termination of the employment relationship in June 2016. A three-month internal investigation at Die Welt gegen Lachmann, which was supposed to prove that he had given up his journalistic independence from the AfD, found no evidence for this allegation. On the contrary, it says in the final report that Lachmann "by no means reported uncritically about the AfD".

Activity after the end of his journalistic activity

In August 2016 it became known that Lachmann was advising the Thuringian AfD parliamentary group, chaired by Björn Höcke , on issues relating to strategic communication. In September 2019, he interrupted a Höcke interview with ZDF on the grounds that Höcke had not been able to prepare sufficiently for the questions and had become too emotional as a result. The ZDF editor declined his request to restart the interview, citing freedom of the press.

Journalism and reception

Geolitico

Lachmann is the publisher of the Geolitico internet platform . According to its self-description, the platform sees itself as a “magazine for political culture” and primarily deals with the “social and cultural consequences of a financial market dominated [ sic! ] globalized world economy and the crisis of democracy ”.

Publications

In his book Tödliche Toleranz , published in 2005 , Lachmann spoke out in favor of a “critical tolerance” towards Islam and, among other things, called for sermons in mosques to be held only in German and for social housing to avoid ghettos according to aspects of a “good mix” between Muslims and to forgive non-Muslims. According to a review by the Süddeutsche Zeitung , he created a scenario of a “terrorist killing power” that wants to subjugate liberal societies in both an “accounting” and “haunting” portrayal. The integration of " guest workers " had failed in Germany; from them an excluded, fanatical generation of migrants emerged.
