Kumede

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kumede is a semi-professional theater play group in Cologne , which only performs plays in the Cologne language.

The word "Kumede" comes from the Kölschen and means " comedy ". They started playing in 1947. Back then, in the immediate post-war period , the people of Cologne were in every way dirty. The Kumede was founded in order to get people back to positive thoughts and, if possible, to laugh despite the bad conditions after the lost war. Since then, the theater company has played a new piece every year. Since 2016, the season has taken place in May and June. In addition to a number of non-public and special events, 22 regular performances are given.

The performances took place until 2012 in the auditorium of the vocational college at Perlengraben in the center of Cologne. Due to planned renovation measures, the ensemble was forced to move to a new venue in 2013 and had temporarily found a new home in the auditorium of the Thusneldastraße high school ( Cologne-Deutz ). Kumede has been playing on the Volksbühne on Rudolfplatz , in the former Millowitsch Theater, since 2016 .

The Kumede is usually sold out during a series of games with around 10,000 visitors and can therefore finance itself, i.e. from ticket sales. Are usually played anecdotes , mainly from his own pen.

society

The theater performances are organized by the Heimatverein Alt-Köln e. V. - Association for the care of Cologne's history, language and character , which was founded in 1902. A little more than twenty of the club's members are organized in the Kumede play area.
