The Stage of Cultures ( spelling : stage of the CULTURES ) was an intercultural theater in Cologne , which mainly showed plays on multicultural coexistence. The theater was founded in 1983 under the name Arkadaş Theater by Necati Şahin as a free Turkish theater. In 1986 the theater was the only one of its kind in North Rhine-Westphalia to move into its own house. In 2003 the Arkadaş Theater won the Cologne Children's and Youth Theater Prize. In June 2017, the theater was put on the Red List by the German Cultural Council and classified in Category 1 ( threatened with closure ). On July 31, 2017, the theater ended at its traditional location in Cologne-Ehrenfeld .
