Franz Peter Kürten

Franz Peter Kürten (born December 8, 1891 in Dünnwald , † April 11, 1957 in Leverkusen ) was a German writer . He was married to Anna Janssen. Gerold Kürten was her son.

Life

Franz Peter Kürten was the fifth of nine children of the master locksmith and ironmonger Peter Kürten and his wife Anna Maria Susanna born. Born Wolff- He completed a commercial apprenticeship after attending a private business school . He was a member of the amateur play group of a Catholic workers' association and was in contact with the Wandervogel movement. Kürten took part in the First World War as a soldier and suffered a serious head injury in 1915. From 1915 to 1933 he worked as a commercial clerk in Düren - Birkesdorf at the Isola company and began to publish literary works. From 1920 he organized lecture evenings, some in Rhenish dialect . He began to collect documents on Rhenish customs , and from 1927 worked as a freelancer for the Rhenish folklore department at the West German Reich broadcaster . For health reasons he moved back to Cologne in 1936.

Franz Peter Kürten had been a member of the NSDAP since 1932 and worked there in the area of ​​the organization “ Strength through Joy ”. From 1937 he held a senior position at the Reich broadcaster Cologne, responsible for the area of ​​"folklore". In the following years, Kürten also worked for the Reich broadcasters in Frankfurt and Luxembourg at times . In 1944 he returned to Cologne , where he lived as a freelance writer . In the 1950s he again made numerous contributions for the Northwest German Broadcasting Corporation in Cologne.

In addition to an extensive folklore work, Franz Peter Kürten also wrote novels , stories , poems and radio plays , using both High German and his Rhenish dialect for lyrical works , some of them together with his son Gerold . Kürten had been a member of the Association of Rhenish Poets since 1929 and an honorary member of the Heimatverein Alt-Köln eV since 1937

Kürten died of a stroke in a Leverkusen hospital. His grave is located in the Dünnwald cemetery in Cologne . In the year of his death, a path in Cologne-Dünnwald was named after him.
