Fritz Kauffmann (lawyer)
Fritz Kauffmann (born July 21, 1886 in Ingelheim ; † November 15, 1971 in Stuttgart ) was a German lawyer and Ministerialrat .
Life
He was head of culture in the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture in Stuttgart . Under the Minister of Culture Theodor Heuss, he had an outstanding position in the culture of Baden-Württemberg. The theater , the state gallery , the art college , the college of music and the state museum in Stuttgart received new directors from 1945 under his leadership. He was also the executive chairman of the Stuttgart Philharmonic .
On Kauffmann's initiative, Theodor Heuss appointed the painter Willi Baumeister in March 1946 as professor at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart, which was newly constituted under Kauffmann .
In 1953, at the suggestion of Reinhold Maier, he received the Federal Cross of Merit for his services to the cultural scene in Baden-Württemberg . Until his death he was an honorary member of the Deutscher Bühnenverein , the Stuttgart Philharmonic and the Philharmonic Choir.
His great-grandfather Ernst Friedrich Kauffmann was a composer and mathematics professor in Ludwigsburg and was one of Eduard Mörike's circle of friends and, along with Louis Hetsch, was the dedicatee of Mörikes Mozart on the trip to Prague (1855). The great uncle Karl Emil Kauffmann (1836–1909) was the university music director in Tübingen.
Fritz Kauffmann continued the art collection of his ancestors, which he called the Dr. Fritz Kauffmann wanted to make it accessible to the public. It was exhibited in the Wilhelmspalais in Stuttgart from 1965 to 1991 and was sold by his son to the Marbach literary archive .
With his wife Charlotte he had the son Hans Joachim Kauffmann , whom he introduced and sponsored in the music business in Baden-Württemberg and later in Bremen .
In June 2019 the picture "The Blue Wall" by Willi Baumeister from Kauffmann's estate was auctioned off by his heirs in Berlin and changed hands for 50,000 euros.
