Fritz Art

Fritz Kunst (born November 12, 1899 in Greiz ; † October 13, 1979 in Jena ) was a German local politician of the SED .

Life

Since it was founded in 1919, Fritz Kunst was a member of the KPD and later a member of the Thuringia district management . He became a senior official in the workers' gymnastics and sports movement . During the National Socialism he was active in the resistance . He was arrested several times and was exposed to the terror of the Gestapo .

After the end of the war he became district leader of the KPD (from 1946 SED). In 1948, with the support of the Soviet headquarters, he was elected Lord Mayor of his hometown Greiz. From 1953 to 1960 he was Lord Mayor of Jena. Because of their support in founding the Motor Jena sports club , Fritz Kunst and Hugo Schrade were accepted into the club as honorary members in December 1954.

  • Honorary citizenship of Jena on November 12, 1969, revoked on March 20, 1991.
  • The street named after him in Jena has since been renamed again.
  • 1975 Patriotic Order of Merit in silver
