Hugo Schrade
Hugo Schrade (born August 4, 1900 in Ludwigsburg , † August 18, 1974 in Jena ) was a German manager .
Life
In 1929 he became an assistant in the personnel department of Carl Zeiss AG . Since his wife, Erna Klara Schrade b. Hess, who was Jewish, were both persecuted after the National Socialists came to power. On October 16, 1944, Schrade and his wife were arrested and deported to a work camp run by the Todt Organization . In March 1945 he was released from the labor camp through intervention by the Zeiss factory.
After the end of the Second World War , Hugo Schrade was entrusted with the management of Zeiss Jena for two years together with Friedrich Schomerus and Viktor Sandmann. On July 1, 1948, he was appointed director of the nationalized VEB Carl Zeiss Jena and director of the Association of Publicly Owned Enterprises Precision Mechanics Optics (VVB Optik). When the combine was founded in 1965, he became director general, and he held the post until his retirement in 1966.
For his work in transferring Zeiss AG to VEB Carl Zeiss Jena, Schrade, together with Hans Boegehold and August Klemm , the managing directors of the Jenaer Glaswerk , received the First Class National Prize for Science for special achievements in the reconstruction of the Zeiss and Schott works and technology . This was endowed with 100,000 MDN.
He received the honorary citizenship of the city of Jena.
Hugo Schrade died on August 18, 1974. A street in Jena- Winzerla and the asteroid (48422) Schrade are named after him.
