Fritz Muck

Fritz Muck (born March 7, 1837 in Dentlein am Forst ( Middle Franconia ), † January 22, 1891 in Bochum ) was a German chemist . He is considered to be the founder of hard coal chemistry in the Ruhr area .

Life

Fritz Muck was the son of pastor Georg Muck (1795–1879) and received school education from him at home. From 1851 to 1854 he attended the higher trade school in Darmstadt and then began studying chemistry in Munich with Justus von Liebig . In 1865 he received his doctorate in Rostock with the thesis "The constitution of a substance excreted from molten pig iron".

With his comprehensive and fundamental work based on his own experiments "Principles and Goals of Hard Coal Chemistry " (1881) he founded the new branch of science of coal chemistry .
