Live and act
Hegenberg attended high school and the art academy in Breslau , studied in Berlin and Weimar and came to Görlitz in 1919, where he worked as a teacher at the trade school. Hegenberg also dealt with mysticism and theosophy as well as expressionist painting.
The Kulturhistorisches Museum Görlitz now owns some of his paintings and exhibits them in the Kaisertrutz . In the 1920s he shaped the art life in Görlitz through exhibitions and lectures. Strongly influenced by Jakob Böhme's thoughts, he became a founding member of the Jakob Böhme Association. This union existed as a special group in the Kunstverein Lausitz from 1920 to 1924.
Fritz Neumann-Hegenberg died of consumption at the age of 40 . His tomb made of Rochlitz porphyry tuff , made by Paul Polte , is in the municipal cemetery in Görlitz . It represents an expressionistically stylized blossom and bears the inscription: I say, because death alone sets me free, that it is the best thing of all things. (Quote from Angelus Silesius )
