Fritz Obenaus

Fritz Rudolf Obenaus (born December 9, 1904 in Niedersedlitz ; † January 20, 1980 in Dresden ) was a German electrical engineer who worked in the field of high voltage technology .

Life

After completing his studies, Obenaus became a test field engineer in Hermsdorf-Schomburg-Isolatoren GmbH (Hescho) in 1929 in Hermsdorf, Thuringia . After receiving his doctorate from Ludwig Binder at the Technical University of Dresden in 1933 with a thesis on the influence of surface coating on the flashover voltage of insulators , he became chief engineer and head of the high-voltage test field in 1935. He played a decisive role in the further development of insulators and in fundamental investigations into high-voltage testing technology. In 1941 he became head of department in the company and after the end of World War II, Head of the Technical Department and chief designer of the ceramic "Hescho-Kahla" work of Electrotechnical SAG Hermsdorf. In 1951 he was appointed to the chair for high voltage technology at the TH Dresden and in 1954 director of the institute of the same name. In 1968 he retired.

In 1955 Obenaus was elected a full member of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin and in 1959 of the Saxon Academy of Sciences . In 1972 he received the national prize of the GDR 2nd class for science and technology in a collective .

Obenaus died on January 20, 1980 at the age of 75.
