Fritz Poppenberg

Fritz Poppenberg (* 1949 ) is a German auteur filmmaker , cameraman , producer and director . He mainly produces documentaries on controversial topics.

Life

Poppenberg first did an apprenticeship as a lithographer before studying at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts and later at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin .

Fritz Poppenberg was a cameraman for good times, bad times . As an auteur filmmaker, he mainly produces documentaries on the persecution of Jehovah's Witnesses under National Socialism and, from August 1950 in the GDR , on the persecution of Christians in the present . In doing so, “he takes the side of the weaker and looks at the situation from their perspective”. He also made films about creation in the creationist sense and about the right to life movement .

His films Mein Vater (1982) and Die AIDS-Rebellen (1992) received the rating “Particularly Valuable” from the Wiesbaden Film Evaluation Office .

The evolutionary biologist Ulrich Kutschera made Poppenberg's creationist films like Does the Bible have it right? The evolution theory lacks the proofs (1998) and its continuations as an example of “creationism as a flourishing business” in Germany. The film received an award from the Christian Media Association KEP .
