Fritz Reuter (doctor)

Fritz Reuter (born May 30, 1875 in Vienna , † October 18, 1959 in Vienna) was an Austrian forensic doctor and politician.

Life

Reuter studied medicine in Zurich and Vienna and from 1896 worked as a demonstrator at the Institute for Forensic Medicine in Vienna. After two years in Graz he went back to Vienna and completed his habilitation at the University of Vienna in 1905. In 1912 he was appointed associate professor. From 1919 to 1935 he was full professor of forensic medicine in Graz and from 1935 to 1938 in Vienna. He also served as dean in 1923, 1928, 1934 and 1935 .

In 1938, Reuter was dismissed from the National Socialist regime . In 1945 Austria reversed this dismissal under State Secretary for Education Ernst Fischer ( KPÖ ); Reuter was reappointed full professor of forensic medicine at the University of Vienna and worked until his retirement in 1946.

Reuter was a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina , the Society of Doctors in Vienna and an honorary member of the German Society for Forensic and Social Medicine. In addition, from June 8, 1945 to February 14, 1946, he was a health councilor for the Austrian People's Party and a member of the state government and the Körner I city senate . From 1946 to 1949 Reuter was a hygienic consultant at the Federal Ministry for Social Administration headed by Karl Maisel ( SPÖ ).
